Set up in 1977 in a small way, the Sangha slowly grew to be a major expatriate social and cultural organisation in Bahrain. Through the years, the Sangha has organized many memorable cultural events, blood donation camps, charity drives, etc. The State Award which the Sangha was honoured with by the Karnataka government in 2002 stands testimony to the role the Sangha has played in propagating Kannada and culture in a foreign country. The Sangha was the second Kannada orgnaisation outside of the country to win the award and the first in the Gulf. The Sangha has invited and honoured some of the giants in the fields of literature, theatre, film, art and politics.
