history

It is a long cry from the humble beginning in 1977, to 2001 when Kannada Sangha enjoys reputation as one of the leading expatriate clubs in Bahrain. Kannada Sangha today is in the forefront of Cultural and Charitable activities, but this achievement was possible only because of the hard work and dedication of the founding fathers and the others who followed their footsteps and today we remember all of them and pay respects to them.

Can you imagine life with out TV, Gardens, Not much Theatres around? Yes! That's how it used to be earlier over here. It was this time in 1977 that a handful of social minded people from Karnataka got together and decided to have a forum or association to cater to the cultural and social needs of the scattered Kannadigas in Bahrain and thus came in to existence the Canara Friends Circle  which was formed on 25th February 1977. The first official meeting of the group of 8 members was held on 28th July 1977 in one of the member's house

Initially attention was given to staging Kannada dramas, but later on, it was decided to provide recreational facilities to the members . Just four months later the name was changed to Kannada Friends Circle, to signify the broader perspective. The final change came on 6th October 1978 when the name Bahrain Kannada Sangha was adopted.

With the registration of the club and the approval from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the club was put on a firm footing. The membership was increasing steadily -  attracted by the activities of the club. The need was felt for having a premises for the successful running of the club and this dream was realised when the club moved to its present premises on the 10th September 1981. The membership by this time had reached 300 and this demanded larger space. Consequently, with the generous help and co-operation of the members and well-wishers, the extension of the premises was started in February 1985 and was ready for use on the 14th of November 1985.

Kannada Sangha has never looked back from then on and will continue to shine as the best expatriate clubs in Bahrain.
